Carly Shoemate earned a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of California Santa Barbara. In her time as an undergraduate, she pursued research interests spanning biology from ecology to endocrinology. She investigated neuroendocrine transitions and disruptions such as menopause and endometriosis in Dr. Emily Jacobs' lab, and developed a strong interest in the neurological changes and symptoms of menopause. Carly’s education and research experiences shaped her passion for rigorous scientific approaches to complex mechanistic questions about how hormones shape the brain, particularly using proteomics. She plans to continue advancing women’s brain health through research and advocacy, and hopes to pursue a PhD in the field. Outside of the lab, Carly writes music, runs, and enjoys time outdoors.
